Employers globally are realizing and in some instances requiring that an employee is able to utilize multi-lingual applications in their employment.  Advanced level foreign language students work as translators for IT firms or teachers; they are able to create opportunities that their monolingual counter-parts cannot provide, all other aspects being equal.
